West Point Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad

ODI Training Burn: On January 21, 2006, the department members were able to utilize a building on 7th Street in West Point to sharpen their fire fighting and rescue skills. The first half of the day, firefighters were able to practice ventilation, self rescue and overhaul skills as well as tanker and aerial operations. Afterwards, a training fire was set and the firefighters
were able to view fire behavior first hand. New members were shown roll over, smoke characteristics and some basic hand line operations. The building, which was slated for demolition, was then allowed to burn while members stood by to ensure the fire did not spread.
